Dear Reader;
Let me formally introduce myself. My name is Daniela Cespedes, I am the editor of Watertown Brief.
I was born in Peru, in an amazing city filled with culture and character. For the majority of my life, however, I have lived in Washington, Connecticut, where I attended the local middle and high school. I now reside in this wonderful town of Watertown.
My passion for school led me to pursue higher education, and so, I attended and graduated from Sacred Heart University, in Fairfield, Connecticut, in May of 2021.
For most of my college experience, I loved everything about Criminal Justice, which was my major. During my third year of college, however, I fell in love with my school’s Journalism program. I loved every class I took, from photojournalism to News Writing. Thus began my passion for writing and reporting.
I was part of the college’s newspaper team, The Spectrum, and became an assistant for one of the five sections in the newspaper.
After college, much like any recent graduate, I was unsure which path to take. I had my Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice which was the bulk of my knowledge, but I also had a minor in Journalism, which was a newfound passion.
Needless to say, life took me in a whole different direction.
In Oct of 2021, I gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby boy. It was indeed the best moment of my life and the happiness he has brought my family has been indescribable.
As many know, babies are beautiful, and wonderful and bring on a lot of happiness, but they can also be very demanding and require a lot of time and attention.
After a few months of settling into my new role, I was once again wondering how to kickstart a career, and now with a baby.
I came across Patch, the company that brings you my website- Watertown Brief. It was an opportunity I could not pass. Besides, our goals aligned– bringing community news and connecting with the people in our small towns.
That is precisely my goal. I want to bring you relevant news about our town and highlight local businesses and events. I also want my platform to be a space where you can talk and share opinions with your community. We are in this together!
Now that you know a little bit about me, I would love to know a little more about you.
As always, thank you for supporting small local news. Your support is the gas that fuels this news site.
Sincerely,
Daniela Cespedes
Editor, Watertown Brief
